How Eco-Modulation Works in Belgium with Fost Plus

Add to Calendar

Join us for an informative Member-exclusive webinar featuring special guest Thomas De Meester, Head of Public and Regulatory Affairs at Fost Plus. Thomas will share his experience on how eco-modulation operates in Belgium, providing valuable insights on how it works to drive better environmental outcomes.  APCO is working closely with organisations overseas that have successfully improved recycling outcomes as we look to build this approach within Australia.

About Fost Plus:

Founded in 1994, Fost Plus is dedicated to fulfilling the take-back obligations of its members by promoting, coordinating, and financing the selective collection, sorting, and recycling of household packaging waste. They operate under the principle of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), ensuring that companies take responsibility for the end-of-life management of their products.

- Belgian recycling rate: 97% (FostPlus Activity Report, 2023)
- Eco-modulated fees are calculated based on the actual costs of the recycling process.
- Future goals: By 2025, non-recyclable packaging will no longer be allowed on the market in Belgium.
- Financial support: Fost Plus pays costs directly to sorters and collectors.
