Subject: Awards, 2025 Targets
23 September 2020

The 2020 APCO Awards ceremony will return on 18 November with a new digital format and three new categories celebrating progress towards the 2025 National Packaging Targets.

The annual celebration of sustainable packaging innovation and leadership will this year feature over 18 unique categories, including accolades for the highest performing organisations from a range of major industry sectors, including retail, manufacturing, electronics, food and beverage and telecommunication

This year APCO will also unveil three new categories to celebrate projects that are helping Australia reach the 2025 National Packaging Targets. The new Our Packaging Future Awards will highlight best practice sustainable packaging education, improved collection and recycling systems, and end-market development.

Brooke Donnelly, APCO CEO commented: “2020 has been a tough year, with many businesses affected by the bushfires and COVID-19. Despite these challenges, APCO Members have continued to develop tangible and effective sustainability initiatives that are delivering substantial impact for Australia’s sustainable packaging ecosystem. Our awards are an opportunity to celebrate these achievements and acknowledge those organisations that are leading the way towards 2025.”

Other categories available include the five Outstanding Achievement Awards that recognise the highest performing organisations in Industry Leadership, Packaging Design for Recoverability and Sustainable Packaging Operations. Also returning this year is the APCO Sustainability Champion Award, which recognises individuals that are making a tangible difference in sustainable packaging. In 2019 Diarmaid O’Mordha, Quality and Sustainability Manager for Endeavour Drinks, took home the inaugural trophy in recognition of his sustainability leadership in the wine industry supply chain.

The evening’s most prestigious award - the Outstanding Achievement in Industry Leadership category – will recognise an APCO Member that is integrating sustainable packaging as a core consideration for their organisation. In 2019 the accolade went to supply chain specialists CHEP, in recognition of the organisation’s highly collaborative and innovative global reusable packaging model.

The Our Packaging Future Awards are open to all Brand Owner and Covenant Supporter Members and are self-nomination format. Entries close on 2 October. More information is available on the APCO website https://www.packagingcovenant.org.au/events-and-education/apco-annual-awards
