REDcycle Update 2 DECEMBER 2022

As noted in last week’s update, the ACCC granted interim authorisation with conditions to enable Coles Group Limited, Woolworths Group Limited and ALDI Stores (together, the Participants) to develop an interim solution for the collection and recycling of soft plastics following the suspension of the REDcycle program.

The initial meeting of this group occurred yesterday, 1 December, and we are told all parties demonstrated a strong commitment and willingness to find interim solutions.

APCO is awaiting a formal request to join this ACCC-authorised process and continues to work across the industry to help expedite and facilitate interim and long-term solutions to soft plastics recycling.

Given the fluid nature of this issue, rest assured APCO will provide ongoing timely updates as necessary, rather than continuing with this weekly format.

In the meantime, we encourage brand owners involved in the REDcycle program to continue to inform customers via websites and other appropriate channels that soft plastic packaging should not be returned to supermarkets until advised otherwise.
