Applications now open for the 2023 APCO Annual Awards

Applications are now open until 24 August 2023 for the APCO Annual Awards.


This year, the awards have undergone a strategic transformation with significant changes designed to elevate the Awards to new heights. To ensure the APCO Annual Awards represent the highest level of achievement within the industry, APCO has introduced an awards application fee for the Our Packaging Future Awards, designed to maintain the integrity and competitiveness of the Awards. Note that the sector-based reports will still exist at zero cost to Members. 


Why the Shift to a Paid Application process? 


By transitioning to a paid application system, APCO aims to enhance the quality and competitiveness of submissions. This nominal fee allows APCO to introduce an independent judging panel to ensure fairness and impartiality in the judging process. APCO has partnered with Banksia Foundation who will bring in an independent judging panel comprising of professionals from across the packaging industry value chain. These experts will evaluate the entries based on predetermined criteria and select the most outstanding initiatives in each award category. With their diverse expertise and impartial perspective.

 

Opening the Doors to the Entire Packaging Industry 


For the first time ever, the APCO Annual Awards are open to APCO Members and the entire packaging industry. APCO believes that collaboration and knowledge sharing are crucial in driving positive change. By welcoming non-members, APCO aims to foster a culture of inclusivity and amplify the collective impact of sustainability efforts. This inclusive approach encourages organisations from all corners of the industry to participate and contribute to a sustainable packaging future. 


The Awards Categories: Showcasing Excellence and Driving Progress 


The awards open on the application portal will focus on key initiatives, all under the overarching theme of "Our Packaging Future." These categories include: 


  • SPGs Implementation 
  • Reuse 
  • Industry Education 
  • Consumer Education 
  • Recycling Systems 
  • Recycled Content 
  • Sustainability Champion (no fee)
  • Best of the Best Reporting Excellence Award – Full & SME (Invite only for APCO Members with a benchmark score of 100, no fee)

Each category represents a key aspect of sustainability and innovation within the packaging industry. From recognising remarkable strides in recycling systems and advocating for consumer education, to applauding leaders who have made sustainability their mission, the APCO Annual Awards celebrate the pioneers shaping the future of packaging. 


Winners will be announced at our awards ceremony on Thursday, 2nd November. This year’s awards ceremony will also be preceded by a half-day conference exploring the theme 'The Future of Packaging'. 


Award Ceremony event registrations will open on Tuesday, 8 August.
